Officers mentioned they were alerted by a man who discovered a car in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.

A high-ranking official stated the vandalism left him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
