The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
