The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Whenever a prominent awards ceremony nears, one notices a demand to include fresh award types to honor unsung work and fill the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, however the design of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
