That Gory Animated Film Conclusion That Haunts Viewers

Among all the adult-oriented animated films I’ve ever watched, no other has lingered in my mind quite like the fear-filled ending of a viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.

In 2015’s, this Spain-based writer-director created a dark, bleak , frequently brutal world with several minor , desolate hints of optimism.

Although Unicorn Wars feels like it stemmed from a drive to expand animation even more, the director explained that it was actually an effort to convey a widespread, cross-cultural message about “the shared root of each battle.”

This theme is expressed by means of a squad of colorful pastel bears , clearly inspired by a famous series of lovable figures.

Maturing in a community built around aggression and the military-industrial complex, a lot of these creatures are consumed by killing unicorns, due to a religious scripture which states the bears they used to be rulers of the woods, until these creatures expelled them.

Some haven’t fully fallen for the propaganda, and would rather experiment with drugs or mate in the woods.

In contrast to their gentle equivalents, these colorful critters have visible genitals and clear urges.

For a particular particularly cruel, skeptical animal, Bluey, the conflict with the unicorns becomes a path to power — and particularly to dominance above his softer, kinder brother Tubby.

The character is a bully and an apparent sociopath , and when terror overcomes his squad and takes his fellow soldiers one by one, he seizes increasingly influence on his own behalf, via progressively bloody, harmful methods.

Meanwhile, the horned creatures are experiencing their own nightmare, in the form of a spreading, harmful creature in their woods.

“Initially, it feels like a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it becomes a more intense and melancholic movie. And in the finale, it transforms into a horror film.”

Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like among the playful movies from an iconic animator, which find a wicked pleasure in allowing drawn beings curse, shoot each other, or have intimate relations.

Subsequently it turns into something more like a darker work by that same director, with increasingly graphic violence , a noticeable relation to the actual tragedy of battle.

In the finale, it becomes a complete Grand Guignol carnage.

The fear which makes the film an ideal spooky-season viewing kicks in much sooner than that description suggests.

The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the devoted gorehounds, for enthusiasts of intense movies who wish to view something they haven’t ever viewed until now, and who can handle a story which delivers no restraint.

See it in a dark room with no disturbances, and the conclusion will dig under your skin and stay with you.
